Broadband refers to a high speed form of telecommunication ion which several frequencies are used to transmit information. The availability of a wide band of frequencies makes it possible to send large amounts of data through the various channels embedded within the band. This helps in saving a considerable amount of time.  A broadband connection has marked advantages over other forms of net access media like dial-up. Some of them are:

Gone are the days when you have to sit in front of your system for hours together to download a single document. Now with broadband technology you can get scores of data in a matter of minutes and seconds. Broadband speed is tons of times faster than other types of net connections especially dial-up.

How do you think all the gaming centers prosper these days, downloading complex, tricky games from the internet would not have been possible without broadband technology.

Previously with the dial-up net connections which were accessible through the phone lines, there was the disadvantage of keeping the phone engaged all the while the net was on. But broadband is available through a separate cable with no connection with your telephone line.

It provides ‘anytime access’ since you can leave it on for hours.

There are attractive packages offering unlimited access for reasonable rates.

Nowadays broadband technology also makes phone services possible through cheap VoIP technology.

All said and done broadband services are not without apparent faults. A look into some of the negatives:

Broadband connections can be more expensive than dial up in some cases, however when separate lines are used the costs can be offset.

Leaving your system with net access on all the time can make it more susceptible to hackers. You will have to create a personal firewall as protection.

Such connections may not be possible in remote areas.

You can see that the advantages outweigh the negatives; therefore broadband technology is undoubtedly a boon to today’s fast paced crowd.
